About
What Silver Lace Craft is: an editorial journal about jewelry and the craft history of Turkey, published in Russian, English, and Turkish.
Silver Lace Craft is an online edition about jewelry and the craft history of Turkey. We write for two kinds of readers: those who love a good story about how things are made, and those who are choosing a piece of jewelry for themselves or as a gift and want to know what they are looking at.
What we write about
The craft history of Turkey, seen through objects. The woven silver of Trabzon and the court goldsmiths of Istanbul, Anatolian filigree and bridge-woven bracelets, the jewelry a bride wore as her dowry, the wool, clay, and wood trades that shaped what hands could make. Not a general history of Turkey — a history you can hold.
How we work
Each story is one topic prepared as a single article and published in three languages at once: Russian, English, and Turkish. Every article ends with its sources, so you can check where a claim comes from. Illustrations are made for each story. We usually publish one or two new articles a day.
A word about Silver Handcraft
Silver Lace Craft is not a shop. Our related project, Silver Handcraft, makes and sells jewelry shaped by the same traditions you read about here. When a story ends, the quiet link at the bottom is all the advertising you will find.
